Gatineau sprinter Audrey Leduc will be advancing to semifinals after finishing the women’s 100-metres in 10.95 seconds this Friday, surpassing the Canadian record she set last April.
“I can go faster,” said the 25-year old making her Olympic debut. “I wanted a personal best today—I just kept telling myself to focus on my lane,” she told Canadian Running post-race.
Leduc, is the first Canadian woman to run under 11 seconds since the late Angela Bailey in 1987.
She advanced to the semifinals on Saturday, but came in 5th with a time of 11.10. The winner of that heat, a Jamaican, came in at 10.89. The finals were won by Julien Alfred, a Saint-Lucian, with a time of 10.72. United States took second and third spots in this A-grade Olympic event.
