Gatineau's Galerie Montcalm and Espace Pierre-Debain open call for artists

The City of Gatineau is inviting artists to submit their exhibition proposals for the 2025-2026 programming of the Galerie Montcalm and the Espace Pierre-Debain, two prestigious art galleries located in the heart of downtown Gatineau. This call is open to professional visual artists and artisans from regional, national, and international backgrounds, aiming to showcase thematic, collective, and interdisciplinary exhibitions that broaden the understanding and appreciation of visual arts.
The Galerie Montcalm, located near the Canadian Museum of History, is an accredited museum institution with an educational mandate that plays a leading role in awakening and discovering the art world. On the other hand, the Espace Pierre-Debain, situated in the heritage district of Old Aylmer, focuses on promoting the works of professional artisans, fostering the public's curiosity for creative expressions in the field of fine crafts.
Artists interested in submitting a proposal must meet certain prerequisites, such as declaring themselves as professional artists, having their works exhibited or marketed by a distributor, and receiving recognition from their peers. Foreign artists are required to have the support of their embassy in Canada. Collective exhibitions must be presented by a curator, and selected artists should not have had a solo or duo exhibition in the gallery since 2021.
Proposals should include a project title, a summary, technical requirements, high-resolution images, a descriptive list of works, a curriculum vitae, an artistic approach, and a biography. All submissions must be in digital format, with images in .jpg and other documents in .PDF, .doc, or .docx format. Submissions should be sent via WeTransfer.com to info.gm.epd@gatineau.ca due to the size of high-resolution photos.
The selection process will be conducted by an external jury of three members based on criteria such as originality, stylistic consistency, pictorial quality, technical quality, and expressiveness of the works. The selection will also prioritize inclusion, diversity, and a varied programming for the public.
For more information about this call for proposals, artists can contact the City of Gatineau at 819-595-7488. This opportunity offers artists a chance to showcase their work in prestigious spaces and contribute to the cultural enrichment of the community, reflecting Gatineau's commitment to supporting artistic vitality and creativity.
